Exhibition outline
ICU Archives & Special Collections is holding a special exhibit that focuses on architects who planned and supervised campus buildings as architectural advisors since the establishment of ICU. Material pertaining to three such persons -- W.M. Vories, A. Raymond, and Akira Inadomi – has been selected from the Collections’ archives. The exhibit considers their relationship to ICU and their impact on ICU in after years.
Until now, exhibits on architects tended to look at buildings themselves, as manifested by the display of blueprints and dioramas. However, this special exhibit closes in on the characters and ideologies of the architects who contributed to the construction of a new university, ICU. It is my hope that this study of past and present intellectual activities conducted at an academic site from the viewpoint of architects will serve as an opportunity to look ahead to ICU’s future.
